Stop Press 1st February 2007 - Barefoot Basics becomes Simple Systems Groupie We have now become part of the Simple Systems 'groupie' network. This means we can supply Simple Systems feed, eliminating the need for people to buy and store large quantities of feed each time. Popular items will be kept in stock and we will be ordering monthly. Please contact us if you would like to find out more information. 19th Jan 2007 - Barefoot Basics site goes live!! Why Barefoot Basics? We want to create a site that reflects our horses journey on the barefoot path and tries to bring some helpful and useful information together in one place. You won't find high brow, scientific information here, there are lots of other people and sites that do that sort of thing much better than us, but you will find some down to earth advice and honest comments about the trial and tribulations we have had. 'Basics' seemed to fit, you don't get much more basic than me and Ginette!! We were also inspired by the holistic approach of the barefoot doctors. We have discovered that barefoot success has very little to do with the actual trim, although a good trim obviously helps! It's more a 'whole horse' approach. That's not to say we are some sort of natural horse keeping evangelists, I keep my horses in a very different way to Ginette and Neil, but because of these different approaches we have tried lots of different things and found ways round different problems. So we picked the name Barefoot Basics, the fact that it was one of the cheapest domain names on our selection list also may have had a little bit to do with it! And then we discovered it's actually the name of Peter Laidely's interactive CD - Hoofworks, Barefoot Basics. So in a way it's also a homage to him. We actually weren't aware of this when we picked the name (we've used the CD Peter honest!), went ahead and registered it and then discovered we had inadvertently used the same name as Peter. (Neil maintains he knew this all along, he just chose not to mention it to me or Ginette). We've decided to keep it, we chose it for probably the same reasons that Peter did, and if it's a mark of respect for the way that Peter has inspired and enthused us, then that's fine to. Tracey |
